Current MLA: Karen Casey (PC), Minister of Immigration

District profile: This rural district runs along the Bay of Fundy near Five Islands and Glenholme and then veers north and east to border the Northumberland Strait. It includes Tatamagouche, Debert and Earltown.

Fishing, farming and forestry are the economic mainstays. Many people commute to Truro to work in factories and offices.

The Anna Swan Museum and the Balmoral Grist Mill – as well as golf courses and the tides of the Bay of Fundy – attract tourists during the summer.

Political history

Colchester North was created in 1978 when the riding of Colchester was divided in two.

Liberal Ed Lorraine, a beef farmer and popular municipal warden of the county, held the seat for most of the 1990s.

However, the Progressive Conservatives have been dominant here since Bill Langille was elected in 1999. Karen Casey took up the PC banner and won here last time around.
