Current MLA: Mark Parent (PC), Minister of Agriculture, Minister of Labour and Workforce Development

District profile: Agriculture is truly king in Kings North, home to about half of the province's 600 farms. Chicken, vegetables and pork are the main commodities.

The district includes the northern part of Kings County overlooking the scenic Minas Basin at Cape Blomidon and the town of Kentville, where Valley Regional Hospital is located.

The manufacturing and service sectors are strong employers along the New Minas corridor.

Political history

Kings North has been a bastion of Tory strength for three decades.

Progressive Conservative George Archibald represented the constituency from 1984 until he retired from politics in 1999. Mark Parent took up the PC banner that year and has served as the area's MLA for the past decade.
