District profile: This growing and diverse suburban constituency includes many people who commute to Halifax for work, while a smaller number still depend on fishing for their livelihoods.

This riding hugs the Atlantic coast towards Peggy's Cove, and includes Timberlea, Prospect, Lakeside, Beechville, Goodwood, Parkdale, Greenwood Heights and Lakeside.

The Prospect area includes some expensive homes and real estate overlooking the ocean.

Political history

The riding has been solidly NDP territory since 1998, when incumbent Bill Estabrooks was first elected.

Estabrooks' grip on the seat has grown stronger with each prevailing election. Last time around, he won in a landslide with more than two-and-half times the vote count of his nearest rival.
