This riding in Peel Region, in the Greater Toronto Area, contains parts of the cities of Mississauga and Brampton. It stretches from Highway 401 in the southeast to Mayfield Road in the northwest, between Dixie Road, Bovaird Drive and Torbram Road in the southwest and Highway 50 and Highway 427 in the northeast.

According to the 2006 census, 53 per cent of the residents are immigrants. About one-half have a mother tongue other than English. There are significant Italian communities and one of the largest Indian populations in Canada.

The riding's economy is driven largely by a variety of light manufacturing and high-technology industries. Because of the presence of Pearson International Airport, it has many of Canada's leading aerospace companies. Average family income is $80,788 and the unemployment rate is 6.9 per cent.

This riding was created as Brampton-Gore-Malton in 1986 out of 35 per cent of Brampton-Georgetown and 17 per cent of Mississauga North. In 1990, it was renamed Brampton-Gore-Malton-Springdale. There was no change in 1996 and in 2004, as Brampton-Gore-Malton again, the northern boundary moved south.

Political History

Liberal Gurbax Malhi has held the riding for the past five federal elections, defeating Conservative candidate John Sprovieri in the 2006 election by 8,981 votes. In 2004, Malhi won over Conservative Raminder Gill by 7,800 votes.

In 1988, PC Harry Chadwick defeated Liberal Gurjit Grewal by 2,815 votes. In 1979-1980 and 1984, the former riding of Bramalea Malton was held by the PC party.
