View these results in the interactive map »This ethnically diverse Metro Toronto riding runs from Highway 401 in the south to Steeles Avenue East in the north, between Victoria Park Avenue in the west and Midland Avenue, Finch Avenue East and Brimley Road in the east.
According to the 2006 census, the immigrant population is one of the highest in Canada at more than 68 per cent. Chinese make up the largest single ethnic group at 47 per cent of the total. The riding also has significant numbers of Indians, Sri Lankans, Italians, Greeks and Tamils. Only 30 per cent listed English as their mother tongue.
Small business and light industry form the basis of most economic activity in the riding. Average family income is $67,027 and unemployment is 9.2 per cent.
In 2004, the eastern boundary moved further east, from the CN tracks to Midland Avenue and Brimley Road. The riding was created in 1986 from 42 per cent of York-Scarborough.

Political History
Liberal Jim Karygiannis received 62 per cent of the vote in the 2006 election and defeated Conservative Bill Redwood by 17,381 votes. Karygiannis is serving his sixth term in the riding.
In 2004, Karygiannis took the riding with 64 per cent of the vote.
York Scarborough voted Conservative from 1957 to 1962 and Liberal from 1963 to 1974 inclusive.
In an October 1978 byelection and in 1979, PC Paul McCrossan defeated Liberal Paul Cosgrove, the former mayor of Scarborough. In 1980, Cosgrove won. In 1984, McCrossan ran again, defeating Liberal June Rowlands, who later became mayor of Toronto.
