View these results in the interactive map »Yorkton-Melville is on the Saskatchewan-Manitoba border, with the Qu'Appelle River forming the southern boundary. The main communities are Yorkton, Melville, Canora, Kamsack and Esterhazy. There are also several First Nations reserves.
According to the 2006 census, nine per cent of residents are aboriginal; immigrants make up three per cent. Eighty-five per cent are English-speaking, and less than one per cent French-speaking. Eighty-four per cent of the population was born in Saskatchewan.
The economy is driven by farming, the servicing of farms and the manufacturing of farm implements. The average family income is $59,609 and unemployment is 5.4 per cent.
Yorkton-Melville was established in 1966. In 1996, about one-quarter of the old Mackenzie riding was added. In 2004, about 4,000 people were added from Saskatoon-Humboldt.

Political History
Garry Breitkreuz has held this seat since 1993, running under the Reform/Canadian Alliance and then the Conservative banner. His 2006 win over New Democrat Jason Dennison was by a margin of more than three to one.
Breitkreuz's predecessor, Lorne Nystrom of the NDP, held this riding for 25 years, having first been elected in 1968 at age 22. Nystrom later served in Regina-Qu'Appelle, but was defeated in 2004.
