View these results in the interactive map »This Surrey riding runs between the Fraser River in the north and the Serpentine River, 160th Street, 72nd Avenue and Fraser Highway in the south. The Langley-Surrey border is its eastern boundary and the western boundary is formed by King George Highway, 88th Avenue, 152nd Street and Highway 1. It includes the central part of the Surrey District Municipality as well as Barnston Island and the Barnston Island reserve.
Forty per cent of the people here are immigrants. Twenty-two per cent are of Indian descent and nine per cent are of Chinese origin. Forty-four per cent of the population list a mother tongue other than English or French. Punjabi accounts for 37 per cent in that category, followed by Chinese at 14 per cent.
Retail trade and manufacturing are the major employers, followed by the service sector. The 2006 census shows an average family income of $82,829 and an unemployment rate of 5.4 per cent.
In 1996, Surrey Central was formed through the merger of portions of Surrey North and Surrey-White Rock-South Langley. Then, in 2004, a smaller section of Surrey North was added to Surrey Central, creating Fleetwood-Port Kells.

Political History
Conservative Nina Grewal won a second term in 2006, beating Liberal Brenda Locke.
Grewal first won the riding in 2004, becoming half of the first married couple to serve simultaneously in the House of Commons. Grewal defeated Liberal Gulzar Cheema by 484 votes. Her husband, Gurmant Grewal, served two terms in this riding from 1997 to 2004, representing Reform and the Canadian Alliance. In 2004, he was elected in adjoining Newton-North Delta.
Surrey North had been an NDP riding until 1993. Surrey-White Rock-South Langley also went to the Reform in 1993, after many years of Tory dominance.
