Career Background: Started career in the investment business in 1970 at Merrill Lynch Canada Inc., then in the 1980s, went on to manage the Government and Corporate Finance Departments at Nestbitt Thompson Inc. Throughout the1990s, he worked as the president and CEO of the Mutual Fund Dealers Association of Canada, vice-president and director of Investment Banking at First Marathon Securities Limited, and executive director of the Ontario Securities Commission. From 1995 to 2007, he was the president and CEO of the Investment Dealers Association of Canada. He also served as chair of the Financial Services Council of Canada. He is currently on the board of the Canadian Securities Institute Research Foundation.
Community Activities: Served as chair of the Prostate Cancer Research Foundation of Canada for four years. An active volunteer at Mount Sinai Hospital, where he served on the board and several committees and chaired the audit committee of the Foundation. He is the past chair of the advisory committee of the International Council of Securities Associations, an organization of self-regulators and industry representatives, and also chaired the consultative committee of the International Association of Securities Commissions, the committee that represents over 50 self-regulatory organizations and exchanges around the world. He is a member of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Business Valuators.
