Career Background: Worked abroad for the United Nations. After returning to Canada she helped formulate policy within Agriculture Canada and Industry Canada and represented the Canadian government at international events organized by UNESCO and the World Bank. Won the Head of the Public Service Award in 1998, given for excellence in public policy and for fostering youth leadership. She subsequently spent two years at Harvard Medical School, where she co-ordinated a global think-tank on science, governance and ethics.

Community Activities: Has served on numerous boards of directors of voluntary organizations, delivered workshops at summer camps and worked with young people who are interested in science, leadership, and ethics.
