Municipal: From 1982 to 1991 was city councillor for Ward 6 in Toronto. Was deputy mayor from 1989 to 1990. In 1994 elected as the Don River metro councillor.

Federal: Defeated in Rosedale in 1993. Defeated in Toronto-Danforth in 1997. Elected in Toronto-Danforth in 2004, re-elected in 2006.
