Career Background: Former customer services representative for a bank and a community worker in North York's Amesbury neighbourhood. Served as Metro councillor; was instrumental in establishing both the "John School" and "Streetlight" first-offenders programs that provide support and understanding to those involved in street prostitution. Sat on the city's executive and budget committees and was chair of the Mayor's task force on drugs, as well as the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee. As a Metropolitan Toronto council and regional councillor in 1994, was a member of the Metro Budget Committee and the Standing Committee on Planning and Transportation. Served as the Mayor's designate and as vice-chair of the Toronto Police Services Board.

Community Activities: Was president of the Cancer Society and member of the board of governors for Villa Colombo, a home for seniors.

Municipal: Ward 2 Councillor in the former city of North York from 1987 to 1995. Elected metro councillor for North York-Humber in 1994. Sat on and chaired 27 committees, task forces and associations.
