Career Background: Deputy director of social and health services in Surrey, B.C., and has worked there for 25 years. Developed programs for special needs children, at-risk youth, housing, people with mental illness, crisis line, prevention resources, and community responses to emerging needs and newcomers to Canada. Authored and researched Youth as a Solution, a needs assessment of youth problems in Surrey, and supervised production of an award-winning youth TV show. Established a successful teen magazine distributed across B.C. and the Yukon.

Community Activities: Chaired and organized projects, such as forums for environmentalism, anti-violence, drug prevention, crime prevention, and equality. Received the provincial award for youth programming, the provincial End Racism Award, and the United Way Community Service Award. Recognized by Health & Welfare Canada in Who's Who, and the B.C. change makers' calendar.

Community Activities: She has served with the Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) as a director; chair of the GVRD Parks Committee; vice-chair of the Sewage and Drainage Committee; Finance; Labour Relations, and Lower Mainland Government Association (LMLGA), as well as with Tourism Vancouver. Director on the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) Board. She has been active with the following committees: Urban Safety; International Relations; Women in Local government; Transportation; Race Relations; Citizens Advisory Committee / Canada Corrections; and Energy Systems. She co-chaired the FCM Urban Safety Committee that worked with the Federal government to establish the National Crime Prevention Centre.

Career Background: Worked in distribution of telephonic consumer electronics and proprietary telephonic special needs health care equipment for Paramount Distributors, a family business. Obtained Canadian and U.S. patents for two-way voice security and medical alert systems. Until recently provided concession services to the Greater Vancouver Zoo. Contributed to fundraising efforts and post-production video marketing of made-in-B.C. documentary films. Was a trade delegate to the Disabled Peoples International conference in Vancouver—Independence '92, and a presenting delegate to the UN IDNDR (International Decade on Natural Disaster Reduction) conference in Vancouver—Pan Pacific Hazards '96.
