The government says it will continue making improvements to Island schools, including building new gymnasiums at Parkside Elementary School in Summerside and Tracadie Cross Consolidated School.

Additional education spending includes:

• $1.9-million increase to school boards' operational budgets.
• $750,000 grant to Holland College.
• $750,000 grant to University of Prince Edward Island.
• $665,000 to Marine Centre and Justice Institute.
• $321,000 to Atlantic Veterinary College.
• $1 million for education programs through Labor Market Development Fund.
• Complete Phase 2 of school capital construction program.
