Juan Year Later

CBC News Online | Sept. 29, 2004

It's been 365 days since Islanders woke up to find the devastation one storm can leave behind.

Islanders aren’t that used to hurricanes. Only five have hit here in 103 years and, despite what you witnessed on the morning of Sept. 29, 2003, Hurricane Juan was the mildest of the bunch.

Still, nearly everyone who saw the broken trees, downed power lines or trashed boats has a memory to share.

Some of you have chosen to remember the day in pictures that you've shared with us in our photo gallery. There's still time for you to share a picture with us.

Even with a year to fix things up, there are still people who have spent the past summer clearing downed trees from woodlots, planting shrubs that were torn from the ground, or replacing the patio furniture that was torn up.

Canada New reporter Nancy Russell explores the lessons learned after Juan.

And in our news archive, you can look back at the news stories that we have covered since last September.

And, just in case, we've also provided a list of websites that can help you be prepared for the next time wild weather hits.
