About Don Hladiuk
Don Hladiuk has been looking up at the night sky since he was about 10 years old. With more than 40 years of astronomical observing experience, his passion is to observe eclipses and other solar system events. He witnessed his first total solar eclipse from Hecla Island, Manitoba, in 1979. Moved by the beauty of this rare event, he has chased and observed 13 total solar eclipses plus two annular eclipses.
Don is a life member of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada and was twice President of the Calgary Centre. Since June 1984, Don has had a regular radio spot on the Eyeopener describing monthly Sky Highlights to southern Albertans. For his efforts in sharing his enthusiasm for what's up in the sky to students and adults, asteroid 73704 has been named Asteroid Hladiuk.
