A fictional letter wrtiten by a student from Maple Leaf School as part of the Hana's suitcase project. Hana Brady died at the age of 13 in a concentration camp. Her suitcase was left behind and sparked the idea for the project. Kids created their own suitcases to understand the impact of the Holocaust on children.
Our photo contest started Thursday. We're looking for the pictures that capture significant moments in Manitoba's history. Listener Kathy sent us this one:
My mothers's uncle left Scotland to work for the HBC in 1876. He retired in 1916. He was stationed at different HBC posts in Manitoba. In 1914 he did an inspection tour of Fort Churchill,I haven't been there yet but I'm sure it looks a lot different today. His name was NMWJ McKenzie and lived through a historical time of Canada and the HBC.

Kevin Lopuck started things off:
I took this picture on the occasion of the return of the Lancaster Bomber this summer. In the photo is my girlfriend's grandfather who served during World War II in the Commonwealth Air Training Program.
As a history teacher I think the picture shows how veterans are getting older and that the importance of remembrance has become more crucial so that veterans' sacrifices are not forgotten.
