adware

anti-virus software

Anti-virus software - Computer programs that attempt to remove malicious software from a computer and to prevent its effects. Anti-virus software usually uses two methods to do this:

1) Scan the computer for viruses that match entries in a virus dictionary.

2) Look for suspicious behaviour that might indicate that a program is trying to spread to other computers.

Software that uses a virus dictionary must have its definitions updated regularly to keep up with newly developed viruses, Trojan horses and worms.
