Malicious software - A catchall word for programs that do harm to a computer system, including viruses, worms and Trojan horses. The destructive effect of malicious software is called its payload. Although spyware does not generally do harm, some consider it to be malicious software. The word virus is also used to refer to malicious software in general, as in anti-virus software. Also called malware. See also Dialer.
