The African qualifiers - final round

The first round of the African qualifying zone for the 2010 World Cup sees 47 countries split into 12 round-robin groups, with each team playing each other home and away.

The 12 groups winners and eight best runners-up advance to the final round, where they will be divided into five round-robin groups. The five group winners will qualify for the 2010 World Cup.

As host, South African automatically qualifies for the 2010 World Cup. South Africa is participating in the African World Cup qualifiers because they also serve as the qualifiers for the 2010 African Cup of Nations.

The final round of qualifying runs from March to November of 2009.
