BOCA RATON, FLA. - The Detroit Red Wings and St. Louis Blues were not pleased that their division rival Nashville Predators have been given a break in the Alexander Radulov case. NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly informed the general managers on Day 2 of their meetings in South Florida that the NHL and NHLPA have agreed not to subject Radulov to waivers if he decides to rejoin the Predators after a four-season hiatus. This clears the way for the 25-year-old Russian to return to Nashville for the remainder of the regular season and/or the playoffs. The meeting did not turn contentious, but there was word that behind the scenes on Monday evening Red Wings general manager Ken Holland and his Blues counterpart Doug Armstrong were not pleased that the Predators had been given a break.

Lupul was a salary dump who paid big dividends for the Maple Leafs.

The defence rests, Wedgewood is better in goal
Canadian junior goalie Scott Wedgewood patrolled the blue-line in his younger days playing AAA hockey in his hometown of Brampton, Ont. He didn't switch to the goalie position until he was 11.
So he has basically gone from being a defenceman to one of the top junior-aged goaltenders in the world in eight years as evident by his 26-save shutout performance in Canada's 5-0 win over the Czech Republic on Wednesday.

This was not a good year for hockey

future player-goalie collisions in the NHL. The league's 30 general managers discussed the Lucic-Miller incident at
the annual fall GM meetings held at a Toronto airport hotel on Tuesday.
The consensus was the NHL will make players and referees aware that
goalies are to be protected from hits like the one Lucic delivered on

Reimer and special teams struggle in Leafs loss
Phil Kessel kept scoring, just not in the third period to pull out a win like in the past two games. The special teams kept stumbling, but this time the lack of success on power play and penalty kill mattered. Even reliable goaltender James Reimer exhibited a couple of lapse moments. The end result was that the Toronto Maple Leafs' perfect season was no more. They dropped a 3-2 decision in overtime to the Colorado Avalanche, a young club that finished off a five-game stint on the road with its fifth consecutive win.

Craig Heisinger doesn't mind the attention, he just doesn't understand why he has become the poster boy for the NHL's return to Manitoba. The reason is he is the one constant from the old days of the Winnipeg Jets. He was the equipment manager 15 years ago when the franchise bolted for Phoenix. He didn't leave. He stayed behind and in the past decade-and-a-half traveled the implausible passage from equipment manager to general manager of the AHL Manitoba Moose to current assistant GM of the Jets.
