Proxy - A service that allows a computer to make indirect connections to other networks. A web proxy can be used as a filter to enforce web use policies in a work or school environment, e.g., to block adult websites. Proxies can also be used to disguise someone's identity on the web so their activities can't be traced back to a particular IP address.
