Wireless network - A computer network that uses radio waves to carry information. Wireless networks are useful for connecting portable devices, such as laptop and handheld computers, to a conventional computer network. Such a network can also connect desktop computers in a home or office without running wires from one to the other. Because the network's signals are sent over radio waves, security is a concern, and many wireless networks use encryption to keep unauthorized computers from connecting. See Hotspot, Wardriving, WiFi.
