From the 2003 Celtic Colours International Festival held on Cape Breton Island we have Carlos Nunez in concert...
Carlos Núñez started to play when he was eight. Born, bred and still living in Vigo, Galicia - part of the Green Spain, he remembers the first Celtic festival in Galicia, in his home town: "I remember all these pipers in my city, from Scotland, from Ireland, I saw that they are talking other languages, but the music is the same, and they also play pipes, so that was very interesting for a child like me." The pipes have always been Carlos' love; and the gaita - the Spanish pipes - are more than an instrument, they are also a representative 'banner'.

  • Bachue recorded at Strathspey Place in Mabou on Cape Breton Island during the 2003 Celtic Colours International Festival held on Cape Breton Island...
·ver the last ten years, singer and harp player Corrina Hewat has emerged as one of the most distinctive, original and versatile artists on the contemporary Scottish scene. Synthesising the energies and idioms of traditional, jazz and classical music, in formats ranging from entirely solo to a 31-piece "folk orchestra", Corrina's combined talents as a vocalist, instrumentalist, composer and arranger have won steadily increasing acclaim among critics, fellow musicians and audiences alike.
David Milligan is one of the most highly regarded pianists in the UK. He has earned an enviable reputation as a key side-man for many groups. A Post-Graduate of the City of Leeds College of Music, David is heavily involved in a wide variety of projects within the jazz scene. His principle reputation lies in his work as a jazz pianist, but in recent years he has been exploring and developing a unique crossover style of piano playing. He is one of the few Scottish musicians who have enjoyed success in both jazz and folk genres.
David's involvement in the folk and traditional music scene has evolved from a long-standing collaboration with renowned harpist and vocalist Corrina Hewat. In 1994 they formed the ground-breaking band Bachue, and have since performed their unique "Celtic Cool" sound all over the world. Although undergoing various line-up changes over the years, Bachue are now a trio, featuring Donald Hay on percussion

  • From the stage CIBC Stage at Harbourfront Center in Toronto, a concert by the New Brunswick blues group Blou...
It's not every band that can lay a claim to a sound built on four centuries of tradition, but Clare Acadian quintet Blou digs deep for its sound. However, as the band celebrates its 10th year of letting les bon temps roulez, founder Patrice Boulianne thinks more about the future than the past. "We're not so much following 400 years as looking forward to the next 400 years," says the high-stepping accordionist and vocalist from his home near St. Mary's Bay.
