From the stage of Neptune's Studio Theatre in Halifax, we'll have a concert from Susan Crowe... Often described as a "writer's writer", Susan Crowe has emerged as one of Canada's most respected singer-songwriters in the folk genre, a label that barely scratches the surface of her compelling and polished approach to music. At once complex, challenging and accessible, Susan's intelligent and moving songs have captivated audiences and reviewers from coast to coast, continent to continent. She possesses, in the words of Britain's Folk Roots magazine, "that rare ability of crafting a lyric that bears scrutiny on its own terms."
That rare ability has earned her two Juno nominations, nominations from both the West Coast and East Coast Music Awards, repeat performances at all of Canada's major folk festivals, and an invitation to the prestigious Kerrville Songwriter's Festival in 2000. Her finely crafted songs have earned her placement on several compilations, including the Kerrville 2000 CD. Susan Crowe is nominated for Female Artist Of The Year at the up-coming East Coast Music Awards to be held in Sydney on Cape Breton Island in February...

Part 1 of "Bards & Ballads"... concert featuring Dougie MacLean, Gordie Sampson, Rita MacNeil, James Keelaghan, and David Francey
From the 2004 Celtic ColoursInternational Festival we'll bring you part one of a four part concert billed as Bards & Ballads featuring songwriters James Keelaghan, David Francey, Dougie MacLean, Rita MacNeil and Gordie Sampson...
James Keelaghan is renowned for mining the past for musical inspiration. His most celebrated songs tell the stories of extraordinary events from history through the eyes of ordinary people. In doing so, they turn epic tales into deeply moving pieces that strike a personal chord.
"David Francey has made a reputation for himself as one of Canada's most revered folk poets and singers…[His songs] are small and beautifully crafted pieces of work that have made Francey both a folk festival favourite and something of a latter-day Canadian poet laureate." Greg Quill, The Toronto Star
Dougie MacLean is one of Scotland's most successful, respected and popular musicians. Singer-songwriter, Composer and 'magical' Performer, he is also a fine guitarist and fiddle player. From his home base in Butterstone near Dunkeld in the beautiful Tay Valley in Perthshire Scotland, MacLean tours the world with his unique blend of lyrical, 'roots based' songwriting and instrumental composition.
Rita MacNeil's unique blend of music has been entertaining audiences around the world for over three decades. Born and raised in Big Pond, Nova Scotia on the picturesque Cape Breton Island, Rita' success can be evidenced in the gold, platinum and silver albums from Canada, Australia and the U.K. as well as numerous Juno and Canadian Country Music Awards. She holds five honorary doctorates and has hosted her own television program "Rita and Friends". Rita has starred in numerous highly rated television specials during her career which have been broadcast on the BBC in the UK, PBS in the US, and CBC and CTV in Canada. She is the proud recipient of the Order of Canada, released a best selling autobiography titled, "On A Personal Note", and released her 20th recording 'Blue Roses' this year
Gordie Sampson may be best known for what he has done for other people - co-written hit songs, produced award-winning albums, backed top Canadian touring and recording artists - but Gordie Sampson is a musical dynamo in his own right.
