a studio session withe Steve Riley and The Mamou Playboys recorded during the Congres Mondial Acadien 2004...South Louisiana's Cajun culture has been under siege for 300 years and has somehow managed to survive... During the deportation of the Acadians from their home in Canada and the following decades spent wandering the world in exile, one-third of them died.... Many of the remainder then created a new home from a swampy Louisiana wilderness, where they had to endure the attempted systematic eradication of their language...Afloat in the ocean of American pop culture, they stubbornly cling to their French, their families, and their fun... Through it all, the music has been a fountain of joy and a focus of identity… Steve Riley and The Mamou Playboys are at the forefront of the recent resurgence in the growing popularity of this music.
