Meaghan Smith from a session done at CBC Halifax just for Atlantic Airwaves. At 25 years of age, Meaghan Smith is a shining talent. Meaghan has always been a true artist, displaying sensitivity to inward impressions and striving in various ways to express outwardly her understanding of the world. Although an accomplished visual artist, creating music has become her medium for transforming finely tuned observation into thoughtful musical response. There is an emotional element to much of her work that touches the soul. Her lyrics are born of a susceptible heart.

Jill Barber from a session done at CBC Halifax just for Atlantic Airwaves. Drawing on influences from old-time jazz standards, bluegrassy-folk and hook-laden pop, Jill Barber's colourful repertoire reflects the subtle assuredness of a songwriter wise beyond her years. Having moved to the east coast just over a year ago from Kingston, ON, Barber has been steadily seducing Halifax audiences with her charismatic live persona and charming debut record, A Note to Follow So. Sook-Yin Lee, host of Definitely Not the Opera, called her music "sweet stuff," and Mary-Anne Korosci, producer and host of New Music Canada, recently claimed that, "from Halifax, NS, comes one of the sweetest voices I have ever heard...I'm sure this won't be the last time we hear from Jill Barber."

Garrett Mason from a session done at CBC Halifax just for Atlantic Airwaves. When Garrett Mason tells you that the blues is his life you had better believe him. Garrett is the son of the Prime Minister of the Blues, Dutch Mason. So it's no stretch to imagine that the young man knows a bit about the blues, both the music and the life that goes with it. Ever since he can remember the only thing he's wanted to do is play the blues and that's what he's set out to do.
Over the last couple of years he's been getting his stage chops together playing gigs all over the Maritimes with the likes of his Dad and Mark Green. He's also been seen more and more around Halifax these days and this time doing his own thing. And his own thing comes complete with strong original songs, a voice with an aged, raw quality that belies his tender years, and an extraordinary aptitude with the electric guitar.
